Kapsabet, Nandi County – This morning, the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Dr. Deborah Mlongo Barasa, paid a courtesy call on Nandi County Governor, H.E. Hon. Stephen Sang, at the county headquarters. The meeting marked a significant step towards fostering stronger collaboration between the national and county governments in the healthcare sector. The CS Dr. Barasa, PS Mary Muthoni and their delegation are in our county for the World Oral Health Day celebration being held at KMTC Mosoriot Campus.

Dr. Barasa commended Governor Sang for his commitment to improving healthcare services in the county, noting the progress made in recent years. She emphasized the importance of collaboration between the national and county governments to address healthcare challenges and ensure that all Kenyans have access to quality and affordable healthcare services.

COUNTY GOVERNMENT OF NANDI AND PARTNERS CHAMPION DENTAL HEALTH WITH COMPREHENSIVE MEDICAL CAMP AND NEW DENTAL CENTER

In a significant stride toward promoting dental health and raising awareness about oral hygiene, the County Government of Nandi, in collaboration with BFL International, the Kenya Medical Training College, Mosoriot Campus, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC), and other key stakeholders, have organized a comprehensive four-day dental and medical camp at the KMTC Mosoriot Campus. The medical camp, which begun yesterday and run until Thursday is aimed to sensitize the public on various aspects of dental health, including oral education, tooth extraction, fillings, and medical screening. This effort underscores the county’s commitment to improving healthcare access and fostering a culture of preventive care among its residents.

The camp provides free dental and medical services to hundreds of residents, addressing critical oral health issues such as tooth decay, gum disease, and other dental complications. Blood donations, Medical screenings for general health conditions are also conducted, ensuring a holistic approach to healthcare delivery. The event is particularly timely, as it will culminate in the commissioning of a new dental center and the launch of a community oral health program at the Mosoriot KMTC on World Oral Health Day, to be observed on Thursday, March 20, 2025.

 

The new dental center is expected to serve as a hub for dental care in the region, offering affordable and accessible services to residents while also serving as a training facility for dental students. The community oral health program, on the other hand, will focus on sustained public education, preventive care, and early intervention to combat oral health challenges in the county.

Earlier today, H.E. Governor Stephen Sang held a productive discussion with key partners, including Lynelle DeRoo, CEO of BFL International, Moses Kiptanui, Director of KMPDC, Dr. Beatrice Achieng, President of the Oral Health Association of Kenya, and other stakeholders. In a bid to boost to healthcare services in Mosop Sub-County, the Department of Health and Sanitation today officially received an ambulance handed over by the Kabiemit Health Centre Management Committee. The handover ceremony, led by the committee’s chairman, Mr. Keino, marks a pivotal moment in enhancing emergency medical services for the region.

 

The ambulance, which will be operationalized and serviced by the county government, will be stationed at Kabiemit Health Centre. Its strategic location ensures that it will serve not only the residents of Ndalat Ward and Mosop Sub-County but also adjacent geographic areas whenever the need arises.
