NANDI COUNTY PIONEERS DIGITAL HEALTHCARE TRANSFORMATION

The County Government of Nandi has been selected as one of the pilot counties for a national government-led initiative to digitize healthcare facilities across all levels. This ambitious project follows a comprehensive survey assessing the status of ICT infrastructure in the county, paving the way for a seamless transition to digital health solutions.

With the distribution of essential equipment to healthcare providers, Nandi County is making significant progress in modernizing its healthcare system. The digitization drive aims to enhance efficiency, improve service delivery, and ensure residents have access to timely, affordable, and high-quality medical care.

Key Components of the Digital Health Initiative

Under the Comprehensive and Integrated Health Information System, Nandi County will implement several cutting-edge digital solutions, including:

1. Health Information Exchange (HIE) – Enables real-time data sharing among healthcare providers, ensuring seamless coordination and better patient outcomes.

2. SHA Registration Portal & AfyaYangu App – Simplifies access to Social Health Authority (SHA) services, allowing residents to register and manage their health benefits with ease.

3. E-Claims Processing – Accelerates reimbursement for healthcare services while enhancing transparency and accountability in financial transactions.

4. Digital Hospital Management Systems – Automates administrative and clinical processes, improving efficiency in patient record management, appointments, and drug inventory.

Earlier today, Nandi Deputy County Secretary Dr. Lydia Kosgei who oversaw the distribution of equipments to sub county health teams emphasized the importance of embracing digital healthcare solutions. She noted that the move aligns with the county’s broader agenda to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

Also present were CEC Member for Health and Sanitation Dr. Angeline Kirui, Chief Officer for Health and Sanitation Fredrick Kiptum, and County Director of Health Dr. David Bungei, among other senior health officials. They collectively urged healthcare workers and residents to adopt the new digital tools to ensure the success of the program.

A Step Towards a Healthier, More Connected Nandi

By integrating technology into its healthcare system, Nandi County is setting a benchmark for other regions in Kenya. The digitization of health facilities will not only improve service delivery but also strengthen data-driven decision-making, ultimately leading to better health outcomes for all residents.

As the county continues to roll out these innovations, the collaboration between the national government, county leadership, healthcare providers, and the public will be crucial in ensuring the long-term success of this transformative initiative.
