BOOST FOR THE MEDICAL SECTOR IN NANDI COUNTY

Nandi County Governor Dr. Cleophas Lagat has said that the County will soon have two medical training colleges in Mosoriot and Kaptumo from September this year. Students from all over the country who will be admitted to Kaptumo Medical Training College will go for their training sessions at Nandi Hills hospital while those admitted to Mosoriot will have their training sessions at Kapsabet Referral Hospital. H.E urged the leadership of the County to unite to enhance collective and efficient development through out the Nandi County jurisdiction
Present during the event was the Country Director of Medical Training College Mr. Tum, who on his hand emphasised on the need to see expansion of medical training colleges as per the MTC policy, he points out that this will see the children assess education and proper healthcare and consequently enhance their future empowerment

Chairman of MTC Prof. Kaloki was really greatful for what the County Government of Nandi is doing and promised to see that the County opens two medical colleges in the County.
The Area Member of Parliament Cornelly Serem thanked the Governor for the work he is doing as it is for the benefit of the community. He urged the ministry concerned to ensure there is enough personnel to handle patients in all health facilities. ‘’We condemn those who oppose to development’’ he added.
Also present were Director of Health Dr. Kemboi, Chief officer Mr. Serem among other county officials.

MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT

The cost of keeping a Member of Parliament rose to an average of Sh2 million per month beginning Wednesday (July 1). Budget documents show that the 349 MPs (National Assembly) will, in the fiscal year starting July 1, get paid an average of Sh1.99 million per month in salaries and reimbursements for costs incurred up from an average of Sh1.5 million this year. Each of the 67 senators is expected to take home similar amounts. The 416 legislators will earn the money in basic pay and personal allowances paid as part of the salary that adds up to about Sh1.387 million (combined average for MPs and senators). Each MP then earns an average of Sh509,214 per month in domestic travel and other transportation costs, taking the total to nearly Sh2 million. Travel costs are paid to the legislators as mileage claims for trips made to their constituencies. Budget documents for the past two years show that the cost of maintaining legislators rose by nearly Sh400,000 per MP per month. In the fiscal year ended June 2014, each of the MPs earned an average Sh1.59 million per month compared to the Sh1.98 million they will be paid in the next financial year — a Sh390,000 or a 24.5 per cent rise.

NANDI PROJECTS ARE ON COURSE, ASSURES CLEOPHAS LAGAT

The Nandi County Government is committed to completing all the projects launched in the devolved unit two years ago, Governor Cleophas Lagat said.

The projects were budgeted for in the 2013/2015 financial year.

Dr Lagat singled out work that would see each household having access to piped water before the end of next year.

“My government has already set aside funds towards the installation of water pipes in each of the 30 wards across the county. The work will be completed by March next year,” he said.

He spoke on the sidelines of the 5th Annual International Conference on Innovation for the Advancement of Humanity at the Eldoret National Polytechnic on Friday.

INVESTMENT MEETINGS

Dr Lagat’s assurance comes amid concern raised by a section of members of the county assembly over stalled projects yet they had been budgeted for. The MCAs, including Mr Joseph Too (Chemundu), wondered where the money earmarked for the projects was.

NANDI COUNTY ASSEMBLY APPROVES KSHS 6 BILLION BUDGET FOR 2015/16.

Nandi County Assembly on Tuesday approved a Sh 6 billion budget for the 2015/2016 financial year. The budget was tabled by Finance Executive Charles Muge and later debated upon and passed by MCAs in a rigorous session. Kshs 5.1 billion of these funds will be received from the national government transfer, where the county expects to top up the budget with a Kshs 255 million revenue collection, Kshs 430 million unspent revenue from the 2014/2015 financial year and a grant from DANIDA. Development has been allocated 50.6 per cent of the total budget set at Kshs 3 billion. Of this amount, roads take up approximately Kshs 606 million. Health was awarded Kshs 517million where Kshs 230 million will go towards supply of drugs while Agriculture has been allocated Kshs155 million. The County Assembly will receive Kshs 524 million for recurrent expenditures, and an extra Kshs 110 million for the County Assembly development budget. Kshs 165 million has been set aside for the expenditures of County Executives. Planned developments in different dockets include completion of Governor’s office and residence. The County Assembly plans to build the speaker’s residence, assembly offices and a new perimeter wall. Devolved units has plans for the construction of six sub county and 25 ward offices, acquisition of a fire fighting machine, construction of county treasury offices, completion of entry gate at Mlango among other plans. The health sector has budgeted to construct an Medical Training Centre(MTC) and to build a mortuary at Nandi Hills Sub County Hospital. Youth, Sports and Gender has budgeted to continue the construction of Kipchoge Keino Stadium while the Roads docket plans to open up more roads through construction of feeder roads and to acquire graders and a dozer. CEC ICT and Finance Hon Charles Muge said the budget may be strained by restructuring of the county and hiring of new staff.

LAUNCH OF DRUGS AND STATE OF ART AMBULANCE

Nandi County Governor Dr. Cleophas Lagat presents a gourd to Professor Hassan Kannenje of African Relief Services, an organization based in Michigan who donated the two state-of-the-art- ambulances to be used by the county residents. The professor urged the community to work hand in hand with the county government for effective delivery of services, he further thanked the leadership of the county in improving the health standards of its people. His Excellency then flaggs off a lorry carrying drugs

On the other hand, the CEC Health and Sanitation during his speech said that his ministry had purchased drugs worth 35,000,000.and has budgeted for more drugs to be distributed to all health facilities in the county. He assured the medical staff who had not been confirmed that action will be taken soon to see that they are confirmed.

Since the launch of Nandi County Ambulances in January 2015, the following achievements have been reached:

Nandi County Referral System has been strengthened and this has led to prompt attendants to emergencies

A total of 3000 patients have been referred to several Health facilities within Nandi Countyand among these 3000 , 2000 are pregnant women

Increased service deliveries at the health facilities, a virtue that has significantly reduced maternal and infant mortalities

Several accidents victims have been benefitted from the ambulance referral systems and about 294 accidents victims have been evacuated by the ambulance response team

Another 500 have been referred outside the county for investigations and specialized treatment

COUNTY TO LAUNCH DRUGS AND STATE OF ART AMBULANCE

The County government of Nandi will launch two state-of- art ambulances and drugs at Nandi Hills today. The event will result in ease delivery of health services as part of Jubilee manifesto on efficient health service delivery throughout the Country

The new ambulances will be equipped with complete theatre and will be stationed in Kapsabet and Nandi Hills hospitals.

The occasion will be graced by Nandi governor HE Dr Cleophas Lagat among other County officials.

The meeting agenda was on ICT Roadmap for Nandi County E-readiness and Vision and the objective was efficient collection of Nandi County ICT needs throughout the County by the IPA consultant for the official documentation of Nandi County ICT roadmap, a result which would in return attract funding of ICT Flagship projects by World Bank

JOSHUA ARAP SANG VISITS NANDI COUNTY COMMUNICATION OFFICE

It was light moment today at Nandi Communication Department when they received a courtesy visit from former KASS Radio Journalist Joshua Arap Sang.

Sang praised the County communication office for keeping the residents updated.Sang was welcomed by County Communication Director Mr Gideon Birgen.
