NANDI COUNTY RECEIVES BEYOND ZERO MOBILE CLINIC.

The Nandi County government was today handed over the 45th Beyond Zero mobile clinic by Her excellency the first lady Margaret Kenyatta.

The first Lady who was in the company of 15 other first ladies from different counties stated her wish to see Maternal and mortality rate in Kenya being fought to a zero level, “The agenda of beyond zero is as a result of our nature of generosity as Kenyans” she said.

Mrs Kenyatta further urged the greater population to go for screening for the deadly cancer disease that has consumed the lives of many, ” I urge you all to turn up for screening, women for cervical and men for prostrate cancer”. The first lady also paid a visit to Kapsabet school for the deaf and Kapsabet referral hospital -maternity wing.

Nandi County governor Dr. Cleophas Lagat thanked the first lady for her noble initiative of delivering the mobile clinic to Nandi County terming it a milestone achievement. ” This will go a long way in reducing maternal and child deaths as well as reduction of mother to child transmission of HIV pandemic, ” he added.

The county boss also emphasized the achievements of his county in the health docket since inception of devolution, “The acquisition of 6 new ambulances and 2 others as donations from our friends in the USA has improved our emergency services, we have also acquired digital equipment such as X-ray units, ultra sound and MRI in addition to employing 400 health personel” he lamented.

Futhermore, 40 new maternity units are being constructed across the county to boost child delivery and bring better maternity services.

Present during the event were Cabinet secretary Dr. Cleopha Mailu, Nandi Deputy Governor Dominic Biwott, County First lady Florence Lagat, The county commissioner Ms.Lucy Mulili, Area Mp Alex Kosgei, Women representative Zipporah Kering among other guests.

BREAKTHROUGH TOWARDS THE ESTABLISHMENT OF KOITALEEL SAMOEI UNIVERSITY AS COUNTY GOVERNMENT RECEIVE TITTLE DEED

Plans to establish the first public University in Nandi County, Koitaleel Samoei University, have been greatly boosted following the acquisition of a Certificate of Lease to a 100 acre piece of land in Nandi Hills Sub
County. The document which is a mandatory requirement by the Commission for University Education (CUE) before the establishment of a University has been a major hurdle in the quest for the realization of the proposed University.

Speaking in his office when he officially received the Title document from the steering committee Vice Chairperson Prof David Serem who was standing
in for the Chairperson Eng. Dr. Jan Mutai, Nandi County governor Dr. Cleophas Lagat said it was now all systems go adding that his administration would do whatever it takes to ensure the institution
receives the formal Legal Notice for construction to commence.

The acquisition of Tittle now paves way for the gazettement of the proposed University. He noted that the establishment of the University formed part
of his pre –election pledge to Nandi residents.

Moreover, Dr. Lagat expressed his gratitude to the Deputy president William Ruto for his support in the endevour to establish the institution having
proposed the University of Nairobi be the Mentoring University and pushed for the allocation of up to 800 million shillings by the National Government for its construction. In addition, Lagat has exuded confidence that the process was on the home stretch, hinting that works would commence immediately after a yet to be confirmed date for the laying of
the foundation by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Further, Dr Lagat said his dream of having the University was necessitated by his quest to improve the human capital in the County and to empower the
Youth through the formal and informal opportunities that will be offered by the institution,’’’We can’t develop without human capital and industry , a University is an industry and a source of employment to the Youth whether formal or informal’’ added Dr Lagat.

On their part the steering committee led by Prof. David Serem praised the governor for his relentless effort to see that the Nandi residents get a University. The Governor The establishment of Koitaleel Samoei University named after the Nandi legendary leader Koitaleel Samoei will be the first public University in
Nandi County.Nandi Hills will host the main campus while other campuseswill be opened in the other five Sub Counties, added Lagat.

FAMOUS MOSORIOT COBLER RECEIVES A NEW WHEELCHAIR.

Nandi County boss. Dr. Lagat today demonstrated his immense support to the welfare of the needy in the society by handing over a unique yet comfortable wheelchair to Mr. Isaac Melli of Mosoriot town.

Speaking during the handingover of the wheelchair the beneficiary, H. E the governor expressed his desire to help the disabled in the society.

The wheelchair is capable of moving at a speed of 120km per hour and it can also record daily temperatures. Mr Melli a cobbler at Mosoriot trading centre is known for his hardwork fending for his family while trying to make ends meet.

During the event H. E. governor announced his will to improve business at Mosoriot trading centre. ” We want to do a physical planning at Mosoriot trading centre to upgrade its facilities and make it a town,” he said. In addition to that, Lagat mentioned that the county government is mindful of the future generation who are the target beneficiaries of the new developments. The day brought a relief to all the disabled and handicapped people in the area who were assured of any assistance from the county government of Nandi. In attendance was County Executive Member Mr. Josiah Korir, area MCA Mr.Kosgei and other county officials.

H.E THE GOVERNOR DR. CLEOPHAS LAGAT ATTENDING THE 34TH GRADUATION CEREMONY AT BARATON UNIVERSITY

County Goveror of Nandi H.E Cleophas Lagat today joined other leaders and the public in congratulating over 500 graduants of Baraton University.

Speaking during the event, the governor lauded the graduands for having made a great stride in their lives.”As the governor of this county, I am proud of the good performance shown by the graduands and i will see to it that 6 graduands from the school of nursing are employed at the County government “. He stated.

Plans are underway for the County government to partner with University of East Africa Baraton in future in Agriculture and Health sectors.

Chief guest, Professor David Some emphasized on discipline and hardwork as key in attaining excellent
performance.

Present during the event were; Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor H.E Kiprotich Chemno who is an allumni, SRC Chairperson Sarah Serem, MMUST Vice Chancellor Frederick Otieno and Members of County assembly Hon. Kipkirui Chepkwony, Hon. Joseph Too among others.

 KIPCHOGE KEINO GETS FIRST OLYMPIC LAUREL AWARD AT RIO OPENING CEREMONY

Veteran Kenyan athlete and two-time Olympic champion Kipchoge Keino is the first athlete in the world to receive the Olympic Laurel award.

Keino received the award during the opening ceremony of the official Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Friday evening.

The award has been created by the International Olympic Committee to honour outstanding sportsmen and women for their achievements in social engagements.

It will be given every four years during the during the Olympic games to those with achievements in education, culture, development and peace through sport.

The panel which nominated Keino included famous author Paulo Coelho; Michaëlle Jean the secretary general of La Francophonie (Americas); and United Nations Under-Secretary and Executive Director of UN Women Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka.

Others on the panel are former president of Timor-Leste and Nobel Peace Prize laureate (Oceania) José Ramos-Horta; actor Michelle Yeoh (Asia); and IOC Honorary President Jacques Rogge (Europe).

After retiring from competition in 1973, Keino opened a children’s home, which is today home to almost 100 Kenyan orphans. In 1999, he followed with the opening of the Kip Keino School, in an isolated region lacking schools, offering more than 300 children aged from 6 to 13 the chance to get an education.

In 2002, he opened the Kip Keino High Performance Training Centre, welcoming the most promising athletes in Kenya.

To this day, the Olympian continues his amazing work as a an IOC Member and Chairman of the Kenyan Olympic Committee (KOC).

COUNTY GOVERNMENT OF NANDI DRILLS BOREHOLES TO CURB WATER SHORTAGE

The County Government of Nandi through the Department of Water and in conjunction with Lake Victoria North Water Services Board has drilled two boreholes which will boost water supply in Mosoriot and Kabiemit markets .

Residents of the two trading centres have for a long time been faced with the problem of accessing clean water at their convenience, but with the newly drilled boreholes, they will enjoy the privilege of having clean water at their doorstep.

The County Executive in charge of Water and Natural Resources Dr. John Kipkorir Chumo who is also the Chairman of CECs in charge of Environment in Kenya said that the boreholes shall be operated by solar panels which will be installed.

“The two boreholes will add to several water projects we are already undertaking in the areas affected by water scarcity in Nandi county. Mosoriot borehole will yield up to 4,000 litres of water per hour whereas Kabiemit borehole will yield 9,000 litres per hour,” added Dr. Chumo.

He also urged the residents to make use of the rain by harvesting water for use in dry seasons.

Nandi Governor Dr. Cleophas Lagat said sinking of the boreholes will improve water supply to the residents of Mosoriot, Kabiemit and its environs and that water challenge will be a thing of the past in the next three months.

“Our people need water to ensure security to end poverty, to fight disease and maintain health, we need more safe water,” Dr. Lagat said.

He said his administration has invested heavily in providing water noting that access to safe water is a basic human right. He also stressed the importance of water in life, noting that it was the reason his government was committing a big chunk of its resources to achieving it.

Governor Lagat said his government was keen on fulfilling one of its campaign pledges of ensuring that each household has access to clean potable water in 10 years time.

COUNTY GOVERNMENT OF NANDI TO PARTNER WITH BANGLADESH GOVERNMENT.

Deputy Governor of Nandi, Dominic Biwott today received a delegation from Bangladesh Government who are willing to partner with Nandi county.

Speaking during the event, the Bangladesh Minister applauded the efforts by the local farmers and Kabiyet Dairies co-operatives Ltd. “The visit will give us the knowledge required to improve milk production”, he said, noting that Banglesh suffers a milk deficit of 56%.

The board Chairman of Kabiyet Dairies co Mr Abraham Magut stole the show to highlight their future plans which included purchasing and installing a milk processing plant to curb farmer exploitation by other processors.

Those present during the event included Nandi County Agriculture CEC, CO, representatives of Heifer International Co.
Among the delegates included Mr. Mohammad Asaduzzaman,permanent secretary ministry of Fisheries and Livestock.

Also Present is state minister in charge of Fisheries and livestock Narayon Chandra and Nandi county Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries CEC Mary Ng’elechei.
Dr. Mahbub Alam,project director to Kenya makes his remarks.

The team later visited Kabiyet dairies.
