Today 22 January, Governor Sang was in the expansive ward of Songhor Soba inspecting and checking on the progress of development projects.

During his visit, he inspected the opening up of the new Cherondo-Uson-Kabirer road, a 6Km road that will open up more than 5 villages and ease movement of people and goods across the area.

The Governor said that he has resolved to personally inspect ongoing roadworks and other projects across the county to ensure that up to standard works are done.

He also had an opportunity to interact with residents from the area and listened to their concerns. He addressed public rallies at Cherondo and Kapkechui areas.

Sang also visited Seiyot Farmers Cooperative Society where he met stakeholders and farmers who benefited from the coffee seedlings distributed by the county. He said that his administration had distributed more than 200, 000 coffee seedlings to farmers.

He added that many projects are ongoing in the ward and across the entire Tindiret Sub County.

The ICT Sub sector is keen in ensuring more youths from across the County get equipped with the Digital skills that will in turn increase their chances of grabbing the available online jobs and earn a living out of it.

It is doing so by increasing the number of trainers and has therefore enrolled the ICT and Communication interns into the Ajira Digital skills program by the National Government’s Ministry of ICT.

This is aimed at exposing the youths to employment opportunities readily available in the online sector. The interns shall serve as trainers to many more in the County as we seek to make the creation of jobs as promised in the Tuga Tai manifesto a reality.

The Government is targeting approximately one million youth working online for their livelihood and is therefore creating more online jobs. The youths are encouraged to visit www.ajiradigital.go.ke to register, find online work and even get more information pertaining online work.

Having been trained, the interns will be part of the agents of the Ajira Digital program in the County to ensure that the youths are digitally skilled, work online and earn a living for their betterment.

The guiding principles of the Ajira digital program are:

• To promote the domestic economy through the realization of a knowledge economy.
• Elimination of brokers thus generating more value for online workers.
• Generation of value through the private sector.
• Sustainability by orchestrating the ecosystem to self-regulate and grow organically.

ICT, Communications and Public relations interns have started familiarizing themselves with Government operations as they get ready to start a six months management and mentorship trainee programme in different public offices in Nandi County.

The ICT, Communications and Public Relations management trainees who were recruited through the County Internship Programme (CIP) were taken through a one-day induction programme at the Kapsabet ICT Centre. The interns will go through a one-week Ajira Digital Training and orientation process in different Government offices, and thereafter be deployed to different Government offices across the county.

ICT and e-government Chief Officer Jonathan Misoi said the six months internship programme is aimed at getting ICT, Communications and Public Relations graduates from Nandi County ready for the job market. County Internship Programme, is also geared at deepening the use of ICT in Government operations with a view of enhancing service delivery.

This year, 400 applicants out of a total of 3,558, were shortlisted for interviews of which 200 applicants were selected to constitute the first cohort of the County Internship Programme for the 2018-2019 period.

The County Internship Programme (CIP) is a 6-month Management and Mentorship Trainee Programme for college and University graduates, and is implemented by the County Government of Nandi. Graduates get an opportunity to experience and understand government and public service, complemented with mentorship and professional certifications.

The county has received the first lot of interns following the 400 internship opportunities advertised in September 2018.

The internship program is rolled out by the County in fulfillment of one of Tuga Tai’s manifesto agenda “to give the youths an opportunity to practice and sharpen their skills as well as getting relevant experience in their fields of specialization through internship program”.

The county government of Nandi expects to double its revenue collection following the adoption of an upgraded revenue system being primed to offer solutions to a number of problems widely encountered in control of finances.

The Nandi County Automated Revenue System, provides a data base of all traders within the county, a mobile money transfer platform where residents are able to pay for business licenses and will receive invoices through email and a sms alert, parking, land rates, rent and other fees and other levies demanded by the government.

The system upgrade project is the brain child of the county’s department of Administration, Public Service, ICT and e-Government.

A computer or an Android-based phone can be used by administrators to track the transactions. The system comes with an application which can help you monitor how much licensing has collected. Revenue from bus parks, markets and town parking are received and recorded using a digitized system hence increasing efficiency in service delivery.

A pilot of the automation of trader-mapping kicked off today in Kapsabet town, where a team of revenue officers carried the exercise led by the CEC Finance Alfred Lagat and Chief Officer Trade Feisal Mohammed.

Technical reasons for setting up this automated platform included need for a secure database for all revenue streams, embedded ticketing system with multi-platform accessibility (web & mobile), Support for cash & cashless transactions with real time reporting and improved monitoring and supervision and ease of integration with existing systems.

The setting up of the E- revenue platforms will not just have monitory gains to the county, it will impact positively on new business register which is up to date, and also accurate data with improved projections informing decision-making.

It also provides a wide variety of payment options for the business community to pick from. It will greatly reduce the cost of doing business related to compliance.

With its existence, there is increased access to government services and quality of service delivery. Clients do not have to queue since delay has been eradicated, enhanced transparency and predictability of government services.

Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has officially inaugurated  the Kapsabet Municipality Board that is expected to oversee provision of quality services to residents.

This comes after the County Assembly approved a motion for conferment of the status of  Municipality on Kapsabet Town. This paved way for the grant of the Municipality Charter on September 24, 2018, during the launch of the Big Four Agenda graced by H.E Deputy President William Ruto.

The Board Members are Dr. Charles Lagat, Emily Sigot, Donald Koros who will represent Persons Living with Disabilities, Janet Jeruto (the Youth), Kasmir Sang (Informal Sector/Kiosk Operators Association), Aileen  Laitobir (Local Urban Forum -Nandi), Ruth Koech (Neighborhood Association/ Land Owners Forum-Nandi), Geoffrey Koros ( Professional Association), and David Kiptoo Busienei( Private Sector/Chamber of Commerce).

David Sum was also inaugurated as the Municipality Manager and sits on the Board.

Kapsabet  Municipality covers Kiminda, Kipture, Kabirirsang, Kipsigak, Kamobo,Chemundu,Chepterit and Kaptildil areas where the defucnt Kapsabet Municipal Council used to Cover.

Kapsabet town residents will soon receive better services following the inauguration of Kapsabet Municipality Board members that will oversee the affairs of the urban areas.

The inauguration of the municipality board will be held on Monday November 12 at the county department of Sports grounds in a ceremony to be presided over by Nandi Governor Stephen Sang.

This will mark the beginning of a new era in the running of the municipality and towns in general.

Kapsabet Municipality boundary shall cover locations of Kaptildil, Chepterit, Chemundu, Kamobo, Kiminda, Kipture, Kipsigak and Kabirsang.

The objectives set to be achieved by the Municipality include promotion, regulation and provision of refuse collection and solid Waste Management Services, Promotion and Provision of water and sanitation services and infrastructure (in areas within the Municipality not served by a water and sanitation provider), Construction and Maintenance of urban roads and associated infrastructure, Construction and Maintenance of storm drainage and flood controls, Construction and Maintenance of walkways and other non-motorized transport infrastructure, construction and maintenance of recreational parks and green spaces, Construction and Maintenance of street lighting, Construction, Maintenance and Regulation of traffic controls and parking facilities, Construction and maintenance of bus stands and taxi stands and regulation of outdoor advertising and ensuring that the County Government of Nandi is provided with guidance and capacity building to enable it establish and operate urban Management Institutions for its urban areas.

The County government of Nandi has gazetted the ‘Nandi County Municipal Charter’. With this, there are great expectations geared towards transforming the Urban areas through proper Urban Planning and Management.

Nandi County has met the minimum conditions and qualifies for Urban Institutional Grant grants of 40 million and 177 million Urban Development Grant under the Kenya Urban Support Program. These are key enablers in achieving quality and affordable housing as a pillar in the big four agenda and therefore all efforts by the County Government of Nandi are put in place for its achievement.

‘Preserving our heritage, pioneering technology’ is the theme for connected summit 2018. Connected summit is a platform that brings together industry players from the private sector, public sector and academia by offering a platform where the industry players, government, innovators and other stakeholders mingle freely, share and exchange ideas on how ICT can continue to be a catalyst of service delivery to citizens. Close to ten years, the summit has continued to tackle many topical issues in the ICT industries.

This year, the summit is engaging its stakeholders in providing solutions on the use of ICT to attain the big four agenda as well as create a networking opportunity for the government, investors and even students. Among its objectives are: to review progress and achievements in the sector in the last decade; share knowledge, case studies, best practice and lessons learnt based on experiences; develop and recommend policy, regulatory and operational interventions where necessary; Charter a future Kenya of economic prosperity using ICTs based on review of achievements and lessons learnt in both public and private sector; and provide a platform for meaningful networking that will result in fruitful relationships that contribute to economic development.

Out of this year’s summit, the list of expectations include: increased number of locally assembled devices at the JKUAT & Moi university assembly plants, which have both rolled out the over 200,000 digital learning devices distributed to learners in all corners of the country under the Digital Literacy Program; utilization of the NOFBI infrastructure to enable health institutions, countrywide, to share data and create healthcare management systems and so improve efficient institutions as well as using ICTs to enable farmers get value for their produce through tracking of their products right from harvesting to the payment and so cut off brokers and middle men who eat into their profit margins.

These summits have always been the birth of many innovations especially in the public service sector such as: Huduma, e- citizen, Digital Literacy Program and the National ICT Master Plan. This year, the summit managed to launch the huduma whitebox portal which is an initiative by the government through the ministry of ICT geared towards catalyzing the successful growth of local ventures to world class status by creating a channel for anyone who wants to sell/ suggest a product or idea to government. While doing this, priority will be given to products that focus on the Big four Agenda and address government priorities and challenges.

According to the ICT and Innovation CS Joe Mucheru, White Box targets to link these groups of people, and create a space where they can gather and brainstorm ideas and innovations that can be tested by experts in the government. If feasible, the ideas can then be absorbed in whichever sector they purpose to serve and the citizens are therefore encouraged to participate.

The county governments are the destinations of these innovations and projects and its stakeholders should therefore be part of these summits. The county government of Nandi managed to send its stakeholders from the ICT sub sector to be part of this summit that will ensure the great ideas, innovations and other ICT projects are implemented in Nandi County. The residents of Nandi county especially the youth are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunities brought about by the huduma whitebox.

Governor Stephen Sang will on Monday host the Deputy President William Ruto during the launch of his Big 4 agenda.

Governor Sang has aligned his Big 4 agenda to President Kenyatta’s Big 4 agenda that comprises of Universal Health, Food Security, Manufacturing and Affordable Housing.

In health, Deputy President William Ruto will commission the MRI and Renal Unit, a stand by generator and inspect progress of the refurbishing of the Nyayo wards at Kapsabet referral hospital.

Sang in his first year in office, has invested a lot in the health sector and there is notable progress in the department and aligning his health sector to that of the President’s agenda will go a long way in ensuring that Nandi County’s health sector is among the best in the country.

Ruto will also flag off 44 Motorcycles acquired by the county Government and given to AI officers to ease their movement while offering subsidized AI services to Nandi farmers.This is in bid to boost the Dairy farming sector within the county.

The County Government has also acquired 5 Milk coolers that will be distributed to Dairy cooperatives from across the county.

During the event, Ruto will also Inspect progress works at the Modern Residential athletic camp being put up by the county, Issue 21,300 title deeds and witness the Conferment of Kapsabet town as a municipality.

Governor Sang will also unveil his one year scorecard and enumerate to the residents what his administration has been doing in its first year in office.
