Chemase Water Project to be completed

The Chemase water project initially funded by National Irrigation Board (NIB) is set for completion. Speaking during a site visit in the area, The CEC in charge of Environment, Lands and Natural resources Mr. Jacob Tanui assured the locals that his office will liaise with NIB and ensure the project is completed in time. The water project targets 1000 families with each being supplied with 1000 liters tanks for irrigation. It will also be the main water supply to the proposed Economic Processing Zone in the area. #TransformingNandi

Export Processing Zone to be established in Chemase, Nandi County

The County Government of Nandi is set to host an Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in Chemase, Tinderet Constituency. This follows an MoU to be signed between The County Government of Nandi and Export Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) that seek to partner in the establishing Nandi’s first EPZ. The 218-acre piece of land lies on the Chemase plains next to the Kibigori Trading Centre.

The site has sufficient water supply and reliable power supply and is strategically location is less than a kilometer away from the proposed Standard Gauge Railway line an assurance of ease of transport.

Speaking to the residents in the area during a site visit on Monday, the CEC Member in charge of Trade, Investment and industrialization Dr. Bernard Lagat assured the residents of the County Government’s commitment in transforming the lives of the people of Nandi.

“The project will have a great impact on creating job and business opportunities for the county residents. It will also improve infrastructure and the county’s economic growth. We shall ensure maximum involvement of the local community in the planning and implementation of the project.”

Dr. Lagat was accompanied by the CEC Member in charge of Land, Environment and Natural Resources Mr. Jacob Tanui and the CEC in charge of Education Mr. Stanley Baliach.

Mr. Tanui guaranteed sufficient water supply to the proposed project by ensuring that the ongoing Chemase Water Project is completed in time.

On his part the Education Minister pointed put that plans are underway to establish a technical institute in the area so as to equip the locals with technical skills that will be required for sufficient labor supply to the project.

Also present were the Chief Officers in charge of Trade and Roads Mr. David Kosgey and Mr. Jacob Sissey respectively.

The residents welcomed the move and vowed to support the project while thanking the county’s leadership for earmarking the area as the home of Nandi’s Export Processing Zone. #TransformingNandi
