VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTERS RECEIVE DIGITAL BOOST FOLLOWING MOU WITH COMPUTER AID INTERNATIONAL
In a significant step towards enhancing digital literacy and vocational training in Nandi County, the County Government, in collaboration with Computer Aid International, has successfully equipped several Vocational Training Centers (VTCs) with digital devices. This initiative follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) yesterday between the two entities, aimed at bridging the digital divide and empowering local communities with essential computer skills.
The VTCs that have benefited from this initiative include Kiropket in apsabet Ward, Septonok in Sangalo/Kebulonik Ward, and Cheptarit VTC in Lelmokwo/Ngechek Ward. These centers have received a substantial consignment of digital equipment, including 25 complete desktop computers with all necessary accessories such as CPU units, monitor screens, VGA cables, power cables, keyboards, VGA adaptors, headphones, and Wi-Fi dongles. Additionally, each center has been equipped with a projector, an Epson printer, and a set of speakers to facilitate comprehensive digital learning experiences.
The handover ceremony was graced by key county officials, including the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Reney Kirwa. In her address, CECM Kirwa emphasized the importance of computer skills in today’s digital age. She urged students to take full advantage of the newly installed equipment, noting that digital literacy is no longer optional but a necessity in virtually every field. “Everything is now done digitally, and these skills will open doors for you in the job market and beyond,” she said.
Beatrice Jemurgor, the Chief Officer for Education, echoed these sentiments, encouraging men, women, youths, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) to seize the opportunity to acquire computer skills at the VTCs. She highlighted the transformative potential of digital literacy, particularly for marginalized groups, and called on the community to embrace the initiative fully.
The event also saw the presence of local Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), Silas Kogo and Benjamin Kerich, who lauded the partnership between the County Government and Computer Aid International. They expressed their commitment to supporting similar initiatives that aim to uplift the community through education and skill development.
The managers of the respective VTCs were also present at the ceremony, expressing their gratitude for the donation and reaffirming their commitment to ensuring that the equipment is used effectively to benefit the students. They pledged to create an enabling environment for learning and to provide the necessary support to students as they embark on their digital literacy journey.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in Nandi County’s efforts to enhance vocational training and digital literacy. By equipping VTCs with modern digital devices, the County Government and Computer Aid International are not only empowering individuals with valuable skills but also contributing to the broader goal of socio-economic development in the region. As the world continues to embrace digital transformation, such initiatives are crucial in ensuring that no one is left behind.
