PHASE 1 OF PROPOSED ELIUD KIPCHOGE SPORTS COMPLEX NEARLY COMPLETE
Several years after the need for a new modern athletic facility in Nandi county first became apparent, the proposed Eliud Kipchoge annex sports complex is nearing completion with the new facility set to open in early 2019.
The new sports complex will provide 200-bed residential training camp, a gymnasium, arts studio, a swimming gallery; among other sporting facilities. The first phase will cost 100 million.
“This is real. Our vision is to create a real facility that is appealing to our athletes and people not just in Kapsabet but across the entire county. We want to build a sports facility that can be a real tourism component for us and the region and we’re well on our way,” said Sports CEC Elly Kurgat while on an inspection tour of the facility.
“Currently, most budding and established athletes from Nandi County are training in other camps in the north rift region. That will be a thing of the past, we want to make it possible for them to train at the source of champions,” said the County executive.
Once complete, the training camp will boost the image of the county, which is the source to world renown athletes.
