NANDI COUNTY SIGNS MOU WITH COMPUTER AID INTERNATIONAL TO BOOST DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION IN TRAINING INSTITUTIONS
In a significant step toward enhancing digital transformation and ICT access in Nandi County, the County Government of Nandi has today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Computer Aid International. This landmark partnership aims to equip vocational training institutions with digital devices and provide essential digital skills to both teachers and students, preparing them for the future workforce and self-employment opportunities.
The initiative will initially be piloted in three Vocational Training Centers (VTCs) – Kiropket, Cheptarit, and ACK Sang’alo – before being rolled out to all VTCs across the county. Computer Aid International has already delivered the necessary equipment for the pilot phase, marking a critical milestone in integrating ICT into vocational education and training.
The collaboration between the County Government of Nandi and Computer Aid International is designed to address the digital divide by providing access to modern technology and fostering digital literacy. By equipping students and teachers with digital devices and skills, the initiative aims to create a more competitive and tech-savvy workforce capable of thriving in the digital economy.
H. E Governor Stephen Sang, who presided over the signing ceremony, lauded the partnership as a transformative step for the county. “This MoU is a testament to our commitment to empowering our youth with the skills and tools they need to succeed in the 21st century. By integrating ICT into our vocational training programs, we are not only preparing our students for employment but also enabling them to create their own opportunities through self-employment,” he said.
Beyond the immediate benefits to students and teachers, the initiative will extend its reach to the broader community. Youth and members of the public will have access to digital skills training programs designed to enhance their employability and support career growth. Additionally, the project will promote ICT awareness and advocacy at both the county and national levels, ensuring the sustainability of digital transformation efforts.
As part of the partnership, Computer Aid International will facilitate International Computer Driving License (ICDL) certification for participants. This globally recognized certification will improve digital proficiency and significantly enhance the employability of graduates, both locally and internationally. The provision of digital devices, coupled with certified training, will ensure that beneficiaries are well-equipped to navigate the digital landscape.
The collaboration between the Nandi County Government and Computer Aid International underscores a shared commitment to driving technological advancement and bridging the digital divide. By investing in digital infrastructure and skills development, the partnership aims to create a ripple effect that will benefit not only the education sector but also the broader economy.
Governor Sang emphasized the importance of such partnerships in achieving sustainable development. “This initiative is a clear demonstration of what can be achieved when the public and private sectors work together. We are confident that this partnership will have a lasting impact on our community and set a precedent for other counties to follow,” he added.
The success of this initiative will serve as a model for other regions seeking to enhance digital transformation and ICT access in vocational training.
The County Government of Nandi and Computer Aid International have set a strong foundation for a future where digital skills are accessible to all, empowering individuals and communities to thrive in an increasingly digital world. This partnership is not just about technology – it is about creating opportunities, fostering innovation, and building a brighter future for the people of Nandi.
