NANDI COUNTY PARTNERS WITH HEIFER INTERNATIONAL TO BOOST POULTRY AND DORPER FARMING

Nandi County has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming the agricultural sector through strategic partnerships aimed at improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers. On a recent visit, a delegation from Heifer International Kenya, led by Mr. Phineas Gikunda, the Project Manager for the Kenya Livestock Marketing and Resilience Project (KLMP), assessed the project’s progress and explored new opportunities for growth.

The initiative, supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), is focused on strengthening poultry and dorper farming to enhance productivity and market access. The Department of Agriculture and Cooperative Development is working closely with stakeholders to ensure that the project benefits youth and women, who are key drivers of agribusiness in the region.

Speaking during the visit, Mr. Gikunda lauded the county’s efforts in promoting sustainable agriculture and empowering local farmers.

“This project is not just about increasing production; it’s about creating lasting economic opportunities and ensuring farmers can earn a sustainable income,” he said.

Farmers in the region have already started witnessing positive changes, including improved farming techniques, better market linkages, and increased resilience in agricultural practices.

The county government remains committed to fostering agribusiness development, enhancing value chains, and positioning Nandi as a leader in poultry and red meat production.
