NANDI COUNTY, BETTING CONTROL AND LICENSING BOARD(BCLB) JOIN FORCES TO TACKLE ILLEGAL GAMBLING AND EMPOWER COMMUNITIES
In a move to protect the youth and other vulnerable groups from the dangers of illegal gambling, Nandi County has partnered with the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) to curb the proliferation of unlicensed gambling machines in the region. This collaboration marks a significant step in safeguarding the community from the harmful effects of unregulated gambling activities.
The partnership was cemented during a high-profile meeting where BCLB officials, led by Chairperson Dr. Jane Makau, paid a courtesy call to the county leadership. The discussions centered on enhancing enforcement measures, streamlining licensing processes, and creating robust public awareness campaigns to promote responsible gambling practices.
“Illegal gambling poses a serious risk to our community, especially the youth. We are committed to working closely with BCLB to ensure that only licensed and compliant operators run gambling activities in Nandi County,” said Deputy Governor Dr. Yulita Mitei.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of capacity building for enforcement teams. By equipping county officers with the necessary skills and knowledge, Nandi County aims to strengthen compliance efforts at the grassroots level, ensuring that regulations are adhered to consistently.
In a show of goodwill, BCLB reaffirmed its dedication to supporting corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in the region. These initiatives will focus on community empowerment, education, health, and economic development. Such programs are expected to provide alternative opportunities for the youth, steering them away from the risks associated with illegal gambling.
Present at the meeting were Nandi County Commissioner Madam Caroline Nzwili who said, “This partnership is a testament to our commitment to safeguarding the future of our young people and fostering a thriving, responsible community.”
With the joint efforts of Nandi County and BCLB, residents can expect a safer, more regulated gambling environment. The county leadership remains optimistic that the measures discussed will significantly reduce illegal gambling activities and contribute to the broader socio-economic development of Nandi County.
The story of Nandi County’s proactive approach sets a benchmark for other regions facing similar challenges, demonstrating that through collaboration and commitment, communities can overcome the threat of illegal gambling while fostering positive growth and development.
