NANDI AMONG FOUR COUNTIES THAT HAVE BENEFITTED FROM CoG AND FORD FOUNDATION INTERNSHIP AND TRAINING PROGRAM
During the last general elections the residents of Nandi elected the youngest Governor with a majority vote in the history of Kenya. The Council of Governors acknowledging this has partnered with the County Government of Nandi through the the Department of Sports, Youth Affairs and Arts for a three months employment and internship program.
With the support of Ford Foundation through the Council of Governors, the County Government of Nandi will have a three months employment and internship program for the 25 youth, women and PLWDs drawn from across the county to immerse in government as well as hone their sense of leadership and public service.
Speaking at the opening session of the internship programme, Nandi Deputy Governor Dr. Yulita Cheruiyot said that through the internship program the county government of Nandi is enhancing the employability of the youth and improve their job competencies.
Internship program is one of the most and successful program, which enhance economic growth and employment opportunities for youths to be employed by the growing public and private sectors in Kenya.
The partnership will also see 25 women, youth and PWDs attend a three-days training aimed at strengthening the capacity of Nandi youth for improved public participation in budgeting processes and oversight of public resources in the county.
Nandi was selected as a youth led county. Other counties within the programme are women led counties of Kirinyaga, Kitui and as at the commencement of the program Bomet county.
Present at the opening ceremony were the CECM Sports, Youth Affairs and Arts EllyKurgat, Chief Officer Youth and Arts Nelson Ligaga, Chief Officer for Tourism Beatrice Chemurgor, Chief Officer Public Service Grace Sugut and the Program Coordinator Steve Kiprop.
