HEROES WELCOME FOR NANDI SPECIAL OLYMPICS TEAM

The department of sports and youth affairs on Saturday hosted Nandi  Special Olympics team that had gone to Abu Dhabi to represent the country on the 2019 Special Olympics.

Kenyan had sent 71 athletes with (number of atheletes from Nandi) coming from the source of Champions.

Kenya scooped a total of 25 medals (12 Gold, 8 Silver and  5 bronze Medal). The team from Nandi bagged 5 gold medals,1 silver medal and 5 bronze medals.

The Kenyan  team participated in  field and track events which included 800m,1500m, relays and beach volleyball.

Stella Jepkosgei who comes from  kapchemoiywo was named the best Athlete after winning 3 gold medals in 4 × 400 relays, 800m  and 1500m.

The other gold medalist was Kelvin Tanui from Aldai in the 4×400 relays and 800m. Kelvin also won silver in 1500 m while the beach volleyball team settled for bronze.

Nandi Deputy Governor Dr. Yulitta Cheruiyot who received the athletes at the Sports department lauded the team for carrying the counties flag high.

CECM sports Elly Kurgat who was present indicated that the county will continue supporting sporting activities of the special category across the county.

Also present were Majority leader, David Koech, Sports and youth affairs COs Kennedy Tanui and Nelson Ligaga.
