
GOVERNOR SANG OFFICIALLY LAUNCHES THE 2ND EDITION OF KAPSABET HALF MARATHON
Kapsabet – The stage is set for the highly anticipated 2nd Edition of the Kapsabet Half Marathon, officially launched by H.E. Governor Stephen Sang at a colorful ceremony held today. The race, scheduled for 21st April 2025, will start at the scenic Nandi Hills and finish at the iconic Eliud Kipchoge Sports Complex, further cementing Nandi County’s reputation as the home of champions.
This year’s event has been officially incorporated into the Athletics Kenya (AK) Calendar, elevating its status as a key competition in Kenya’s athletics circuit. The partnership with Athletics Kenya and Magical Kenya underscores the race’s growing significance in nurturing talent and promoting sports tourism in the region.
Theme: “Run Green, Run Clean”
Under the theme “Run Green, Run Clean,” this year’s marathon emphasizes environmental conservation and sustainability. Participants and spectators are encouraged to adopt eco-friendly practices, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change. The event organizers have pledged to implement green initiatives, including waste management and tree planting, to minimize the race’s ecological footprint.
The marathon is organized in partnership with Citam Church Kapsabet and other key stakeholders, reflecting a collaborative approach to sports development and community engagement. Governor Sang commended the partners for their commitment to making the event a success, highlighting the role of sports in fostering unity and economic growth.
The launch ceremony was graced by several high-profile leaders, including Rose Angira, CEC Member for Sports, Rev. Aggrey Omukunga, Senior Pastor, CITAM Kapsabet, Joseph Kipchumba, Chief Officer for Sports, County Assembly Majority Leader Hon Walter Teno, County Assembly Sports Committee Chairperson Hon. Silas Kogo, Kaptumo/Kaboi MCA Hon Isaac Mosbei and LOC Chairperson Elly Chepkwony.
In his address, Governor Sang reiterated the county’s dedication to nurturing athletic talent and providing platforms for athletes to showcase their skills. He also called on sponsors and well-wishers to support the event, which promises to attract elite runners and enthusiasts from across the country.
