ALDAI DAIRY STAKEHOLDERS EXHIBITION
Dairy farmers and residents in Kobujoi Ward, Aldai Sub County on Tuesday gathered at Aldai Dairy Cooperative Society for the second Dairy Stakeholders Exhibition organized by the department of Agriculture & Cooperative Development through the Small Holder Dairy Commercial Programme SDCP.
In an occasion attended by hundreds of participants and graced by Governor Stephen Sang, dairy stakeholders showcased their products not only to farmers but also students in both primary and secondary schools who were present, eager to learn from the best in the industry.
Field days have been an integral part of practical farming since day in memorial when farmers would come together to share details of on farm research and demonstration and learn from each other in a spirit of openness and curiosity.
While addressing the attendants, Governor Sang recognized the need for a sustainable approach to agriculture, saying that one of the solution identified by his administration emphasizes farmer education in methods and technologies that have positive effects on farming.
“Capacity building program will increase farmers’ knowledge, income and sustainability of agricultural practices.” said Sang during the exhibition at Kesogon.
According to the County SDCP coordinator Mr Samwel Rono, the programme has invested a whooping Ksh 2.5 Million in Aldai Dairy Cooperative Society, Ksh 2.2 Million for the ICT and Ksh 370,000 for milk marketing.
Chief Officer Cooperative Development Dr Benadatte Tiony rallied for more residents to subscribe as members of the cooperative society saying that it was the main vehicle used by the County Government to deliver support to farmers.
Dr Tiony said that the department is committed to making dairy farming more profitable and it is the reason the department is offering subsidized AI Services to dairy farmers across the Country.
The exhibition was held two weeks after a similar event was held in Nandi Hills Sub County and the next Field Day will be held on 6th June 2019 in Chesumei Sub-County. #TransformingNandi
