DEFENCE DEPARTMENT TEAM MEETS GOVERNOR SANG TO KICKSTART NEW HOSPITAL PROJECT
A technical team from the Department of Defence paid a courtesy call to H.E. Governor Stephen Sang on Friday to initiate the planning of a major new hospital block at the Kapsabet County Referral Hospital.
The high-level meeting, held at the Governor’s boardroom and later a visit to the Kapsabet County Referral hospital, follows a Presidential directive issued two weeks ago mandating the construction of the new facility to enhance healthcare services in the county.
Governor Sang hailed the project as a significant boost to the county’s healthcare capacity. He emphasized that the collaboration between the national and county governments is a testament to the shared commitment to improving the welfare of residents.
“This project is a game-changer for our healthcare system. It will significantly boost our capacity for specialized care and, most importantly, improve access to quality health services for the people of Nandi,” Governor Sang stated during the meeting.
He confirmed that a joint technical team comprising experts from the Department of Defence, the County Department of Health, and the County Department of Public Works has already been formed. The team’s immediate task is to finalize the design and costing for the new hospital block, ensuring the project commences promptly.
The project, to be spearheaded by the Defence Ministry, leverages its renowned efficiency and capacity for large-scale infrastructure development, ensuring timely and quality delivery.
The Governor was accompanied by a full contingent of the county’s health leadership, underscoring the importance of the project. Those present included the Deputy Governor, Dr. Yulita Cheruiyot, County Secretary Dr. Francis Sang, and the CEC Member for Health and Sanitation, Dr. Angeline Kirui.
Also in attendance were the Chief Officer for Health, Mr. Fredrick Kiptum, the Director for Health, Dr. Christine Chebet, and the Medical Superintendent of Kapsabet County Referral Hospital, Dr. Richard Chepkwony.
The initiative marks a pivotal step in upgrading medical infrastructure in Nandi County, with residents eagerly anticipating the improvements in specialized healthcare services.
