CULTURAL HARMONY: NANDI HOSTS 70-MEMBER GERMAN DELEGATION FOR TWO-DAY CULTURAL AND TOURISM EXCHANGE
Tembea Nandi: Where Culture Meets Friendship
Nandi County is this week playing host to a 70-member delegation from Gersthofen, Germany, led by the First Mayor, Mr. Michael Wörle, for a two-day Cultural and Tourism Exchange Programme that celebrates friendship, art, and shared heritage between the people of Nandi and Gersthofen.
The visit marks a significant milestone in the growing partnership between the two regions, aimed at deepening cultural understanding and exploring opportunities for collaboration in tourism, youth development, and community exchange.
The colorful event, held at the Koitalel Samoei University College, was filled with music, culture, and emotion as the Gersthofen Youth Orchestra staged a captivating performance that thrilled the audience. Their rich symphonic renditions symbolized the unifying power of art and the beauty of cultural diversity, while also highlighting the warmth and hospitality that Nandi is known for.
Guests were also treated to a powerful stage performance, The Last Spear of Nandi, by students from Kenyatta University. The play, a tribute to the legendary Nandi hero Koitalel arap Samoei, honored his courage, resilience, and leadership in defending the freedom and dignity of his people. His legacy continues to inspire unity and pride among the Nandi community and Kenyans at large.
Speaking during the event, First Mayor Michael Wörle expressed his gratitude and admiration for the people of Nandi, noting that the visit has deepened the friendship between the two communities.
“We are truly honored by the warm reception we have received in Nandi. This partnership is not only about cultural exchange but also about learning from one another our values, traditions, and shared vision for the future. We look forward to strengthening our cooperation and creating lasting memories with our friends here in Kenya,” said Mr. Wörle.
Governor Stephen Sang welcomed the delegation and lauded the strong cultural and tourism ties between Nandi and Gersthofen, describing the exchange as a celebration of creativity, unity, and global friendship.
“We are proud to showcase the best of Nandi our rich culture, our talented youth, and our breathtaking tourism attractions. Through this partnership with Gersthofen, we continue to strengthen cultural ties while positioning Nandi as a leading destination for cultural and heritage tourism in Kenya,” said Governor Sang.
As part of the two-day visit, the delegation will explore some of Nandi’s most scenic and historical destinations, including the serene Kapsimotwo Gardens, known for its panoramic views and lush greenery, and Sheu Morobi, a cultural heritage site that carries deep ancestral significance for the Nandi people. These visits offer a glimpse into the county’s natural beauty and rich traditions that form the heartbeat of its tourism identity.
Through the Tembea Nandi initiative, the county continues to promote both domestic and international tourism by showcasing its diverse attractions from tranquil hills and waterfalls to cultural experiences that reflect the heart and spirit of the Source of Champions.
The Nandi/Gersthofen exchange not only celebrates art and heritage but also strengthens global friendship, proving that culture and tourism remain powerful tools for unity, understanding, and sustainable development.
