NANDI COUNTY PARTNERS WITH INTERNATIONAL YOUTH FELLOWSHIP TO LAUNCH FREE WEEKEND ACADEMY FOR YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

In a move to bolster youth empowerment and skills development, the County Government of Nandi has officially partnered with the International Youth Fellowship (IYF) to launch a comprehensive three-month training program. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed yesterday, paving the way for the IYF Free Weekend Academy to commence operations at the Eliud Kipchoge Sports Complex.

The International Youth Fellowship, a global NGO dedicated to transforming mindsets and nurturing leaders with international insight, paid a courtesy visit to the county leadership, which culminated in the formal agreement. The partnership aims to tap into the immense potential of Nandi’s youth by providing them with structured training to enhance employability and prepare them for both local and global opportunities.

The three-month Free Weekend Academy is designed to equip young people with a blend of practical skills, leadership training, and character development. Courses will be held on weekends, making it accessible for students and working youth alike.

Registration is currently ongoing for a diverse range of courses aimed at nurturing talent and fostering global competitiveness. The curriculum includes: Technical areas like Electrical installation and plumbing, German, French, English Languages & Culture, Information Technology (IT) & Digital Skills, Art & Music, Culinary Arts & Baking, Dance & Choreography and Agricultural Innovation.

The program is scheduled to commence on 21st March 2026.

Present during the MOU signing were H.E. Governor Stephen Sang, CEC Member for Sports Rose Angira, Chief Officer for Sports Joseph Kipchumba, County Attorney Amos Magut, alongside IYF President Yo Han Kim and Weekend Academy Director Nelson Magundho. Governor Sang emphasized the county’s commitment to creating pathways for the youth, stating that the partnership with IYF aligns perfectly with the government’s agenda to reduce unemployment and nurture holistic leaders.
