Three scholarships awarded at the Nandi County Education Expo

Education has for time immemorial proved that it holds the key to a successful community. Many young people in Kenya have been attracted to education in foreign countries. The process of getting such opportunities has not only been tedious, expensive and time-consuming but also exclusive due to the distant access to such information.

It is for this reason the Nandi County’s Department of Education and Vocational Training, Uniserve and Nandi Professionals jointly hosted The Nandi County Education Expo on 27th and 28th of July at Kapsabet High School to offer an opportunity to students, youth and parents who needed such information. The event attracted 50 local and international universities.

The Expo was officially opened by Deputy Governor Dr. Yulita Mitei who emphasized on county government’s commitment to collaborate with different institutions of higher learning so as to boost the education sector at the county. “We will strive to ensure that we secure global opportunities for our youth through scholarships and partnerships” she said.

The Chairman of the County Assembly’s Education Committee Hon. Kipkirong Rono Mengeech emphasized on the importance of educating the youth. “We need to see that the generation we raise are formed and not developed. Our students should practice what they are taught” he said.

CEC Member in charge of Education and Vocational Training Hon. Baliach present universities for acknowledging Nandi County’s potential in Education. “Your visit to Nandi has seen 3 Students from the County benefit for tuition Scholarships and will be joining Cyprus International University.” He said. The three students are just but a start of many opportunities that Nandi County is set to benefit from.

The three beneficiaries are Ann Taritai, Joel Cheruiyot and MaryLucy Jebet who will pursue Masters in Business Administration, Undergraduate Degree in Economics and Undergraduate Degree in International Law respectively. The scholarship will cover 100% of their tuition fee.

Chief Officer Education and Vocational Training Mr. Sang appreciated all the stakeholders and assured that the Expo shall be held annually so as to give more beneficiaries a chance.

Uniserve is a leading link between Universities in Kenya and abroad and will follow up on the beneficiaries’ admission letters.
