NANDI AND CHISHLO SIGN MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

Hearing loss can affect the development of children’s ability to engage in age-appropriate activities, their functional speech communication skills, and their language skills.

Natural acquisition of speech and spoken language is not often seen in individuals with profound hearing loss unless appropriate intervention is initiated early.

The County Government of Nandi has today signed an MoU with Children’s Speech and Hearing Loss Organization (CHISHLO) to provide support services to families and children with hearing and speech challenges in Nandi County.

The project will involve implementation of infant/childhood hearing screening program at the Kapsabet County Referral Hospital and in twenty pre-schools (ECDs) within the county. The screening will be complimented by coat effective referral linkages within and outside the county.

The goal is to identify children who might have a hearing loss so that they may receive free early intervention services to promote their speech or language and academic development. The project will run for one year.

The MOU was signed by the County Secretary Dr Francis Sang MBS and Stephen Kitur and witnessed by the CECM Health and Sanitation Ruth Koech and John Serem.
