COOPERATIVES AND WOMEN: PROMOTING SELF-EMPLOYMENT
Women around the world contribute to their societies in many different ways. Through cooperative organization, women are able to effect positive change in the social and physical well-being of their families, communities, and nation.
On 8 March each year the international community commemorates the International Women’s Day. To commemorate this day, Nandi women together to launch Korge Arise Women Horticulture Co-operative Society Limited, a cooperative society that will enable them to grow economically.
Speaking during the launch at the AIC Kapsabet Bible College in Kapsabet, Governor Stephen Sang underscored the need for unity among the members for the cooperative to bear fruit.
“We are committed to creating an enabling environment that supports women’s economic empowerment, and this cooperative society is an excellent example of what women can achieve when they come together,” he added.
The Deputy Governor noted that for inclusivity purposes, each woman in the cooperative will represent her family so that the men and children do not feel left out.
