UPGRADING CHICKEN VALUE CHAIN FOR INCREASED PRODUCTIVITY AND PROFITABILITY

In view of up-scaling the Indigenous Chicken Value Chain in the County, the County Government of Nandi in collaboration with National Agricultural and Rural Inclusive Growth Project, NARIGP has today launched the Nandi County Chicken Value Chain Stakeholders Platform.

The objective of the platform is to identify areas of synergy, collaboration and partnerships among the stakeholders as well as identifying Value Chain constraints and opportunities within the county to ensure that the value chain develop to maturity.

Addressing stakeholders during the stakeholders platform launch at AIC Bible College Kapsabet, CECM for Agriculture Dr. Kiplimo Araap Lagat noted that the Value Chain is not only important in ensuring sufficient supply of energy and proper nutrition for our people but also a good source of income.

Dr Lagat added that the county government wants to avoid making “predict and provide policies” but instead formulate policies from informed positions as advised by the relevant stakeholders.

Nandi Assistant County Commissioner commended the stakeholders for heeding the call to collaborate with the county government in developing a roadmap that would reshape the role of agriculture in the economy of the County and Country at large.

He further lauded the NARIGP team for working diligently and with utmost integrity. “I seat in the project’s disciplinary and complains committee, and so far we’ve not encounter any challenge with Nandi County.” said the commissioner.

Also present were the Chief Officer Agriculture Mr. Wilson Lelei, Chief Officer Cooperative Development, Directors and deputy Directors, Project coordinator and other staff.
