This follows a directive given by the president to get rid of all illicit brews sold in the Country. So far the National government has established National Inter-agency technical Committee that brings together 16 agencies of the government whose mandate is to ensure that the drinks sold to the public meet the required standards.
Alcoholic control fund is also in place to educate the society on drug prevention skills and how best they can support themselves through engaging in activities like tailoring, artisan ship among others. Furthermore the fund will assist in establishment of rehabilitation facilities where those in need of the services will be educated, rehabilitated, given entrepreneurial skills and trained on how to manage businesses.
The CEO NACADA urged the County boss to work hand in hand with the County Commissioner to see that enforcement of law created at the National and County governments are implemented.
The Governor emphasized that his Government will support NACADA in their endeavours and see that the death toll is brought down. ” Nandi residents have also died due to consumption of illegal brews and i will not sit and watch this happen” he added.
Over 400 lives have been lost for the past three years due to illicit brew.
The team will traverse the Country for two weeks to ensure that 176 manufacturers of alcoholic drinks meet the standards required.
