Boda Boda Sector Support Initiatives
The Boda Boda sector in Nandi County has greatly increased employment for youth and has significantly contributed to the growth of the country’s economy. The County Government of Nandi has pledged to support the sector through various initiatives.
Governor Stephen Sang, EGH has emphasized the importance of forming and joining Sacco’s during a meeting with sector leaders, as it is the most secure way to access government support.
He added that, collection of revenue is key in running government projects and hence agreed with the sector leadership on resumption of bodaboda stickers, as it will also enhance sanity in management of the sector.
The county has 25 designated bodaboda stages in Kapsabet town and each has a unique numbering system. A colour coding system was also used previously to distinguish operators in different sub counties.
Nandi CECM for Trade, Tourism, Industrialization and Enterprise Development CPA Alfred Lagat assured the riders that the department will provide them with office space for easy coordination and management. He also urged the operators to form associations and take advantage of government machinery offered to such associations through MSEA. In addition, Loan schemes including the enterprise fund will also be established to boost up the sector.
Other issues that cropped up during the meeting including security and street lights were addressed by CECM Administration, Public Service and ICT, Isaiah Keter who assured the operators of full support in their welfares.
Traffic police officer, Ms Linda urged the operators to observe traffic rules citing that with strict adherence to law, the number of accidents will go down by far.

AFYA BORA, SAUTI YETU NUTRITION PROGRAMME SET TO BEGIN IN MARCH
The County Government of Nandi envisions an empowered citizenry through an open and responsive government and has been on the path towards achieving some of the Open Government initiatives.
Together with National Taxpayers Association (NTA), the County has created an environment for non-state actors to assess the project implementation performance and to recommend actions for strengthening transparency and accountability.
Open Government Partnership (OGP) progresses into the third year with more partnerships in various sectors including Nutrition.
Earlier today, the County Government of Nandi together with NTA continued with deliberations with various groups as it gears towards initiating Nutrition programme in March this year. Dubbed “Afya Bora Sauti Yetu”, this programme focusses on Transparency and Openness in budgeting and execution of Nutrition programmes in Nandi County.
The three year programme is being funded by Christian Aid through NTA who are co-applicants to OGP membership with the County Government of Nandi.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Governor H.E Dr. Yulita Cheruiyot, said that the county government of Nandi aspires to provide a benchmark for best practices in civic engagement, open procurement and disclosures of important information that is necessary for informed participation of citizens, effective oversight of government and its officials and the efficiency of government functionality.
Present were the former Chief Officer for ICT Jonathan Misoi and his Economic and Planning counterpart Felix Sambu who have been very instrumental in building capacity of the community members, Community Health Workers, Health Facility Management Committees and partners in Health sector.

Expanding Coffee Production in Nandi County
The County Government of Nandi through its Department of Agriculture and Cooperative Development is working to increase the coffee production in Nandi County and make it one of the leading, if not top, coffee-producing counties in Kenya. Some of the strategies earmarked by the Agriculture directorate include expanding production in suitable agroecological zones in the North and South Coffee Belts, which include specific regions with higher potential in the county.
Beginning this January, the department’s expansion efforts include mapping, registering, profiling and training farmers in preparation for increased production. It is also working closely with coffee researchers and farmers’ cooperatives to propagate over 2,000,000 coffee seedlings this year.
The Northern Coffee Belt includes Chepterwai, Kipkaren, Ndalat, Kabisaga, and Lelmokwo Ngechek wards, and the Southern Coffee Belt encompasses Ol’lessos, Kapchorwa, Tindiret, Songhor Soba, Kapsimotwo, Chemelil-Chemase, Koyo-Ndurio, Kobujoi Maraba, and Terik Wards.
In addition to coffee, the department is also supporting the development of high-yielding value chains such as dairy, avocado, and tea in the central belt. The central belt is made up of Kurgung Surungai, Kabiyet, Sang’alo Kebulonik, Chepkumia, Kapkangani, Kapsabet and Kilibwoni wards in Mosop and Emgwen Sub Counties.
It also includes Chemundu Kapng’etuny, Kosirai, Kaptel Kamoiywo, Kiptuya, Lessos, Nandi Hills and Kabwareng wards Chesumei,Nandi Hills & Aldai Sub Counties.
To further this goal, the CECM for Agriculture and Cooperative Development Dr. Kiplimo Araap Lagat made a visit to the Coffee Research Institute (CRI) to learn about new developments in the coffee industry and discuss potential collaborations with the management, led by Dr. Jane Cheserek. #ContinuedTransformation #DolaMashinani
