STATEMENT FROM H.E DR.YULITA MITEI – DEPUTY GOVERNOR, NANDI COUNTY.
Nandi County, being one of the counties that is already reaping big from the fruits of devolution as it had been envisaged by the supreme laws of our land,to this end, it is worth reporting that several flagship projects that were initiated at the advent of the devolved units are already benefiting Kenyans.
The Kenyan public have had a chance to determine what comes out of every piece of legislation made by the executive and legislative arms of the government, through public participation fora as provided for in law, that privilege has been granted to the common populace
Two years down the line, alot of milestones have been achieved in terms of service delivery. The county has six sub-counties with fully operational offices through which county government services are offered to the people. These services include agricultural extension, health, early childhood education and vocational training
The county government has also invested heavily in infrastructural development of important amenities which have directly improved the living standards of the people. Key to these developments is the improvement of all important road network usable to undertake development projects within Nandi county.
The ongoing construction of Kipchoge Keino stadium will see all the internationally recognized athletes practice there and even host number of sporting tournaments.
It is also notable that through devolution, businesses have begun to thrive. Nandi County recently held a successful investment conference and exhibition. During the conference both local and international investors expressed their commitment to put up 4 billion shillings worth of investment.
This will go a long way in creating thousands of job opportunities for the residents of the county. The investors eyeing the rich agricultural sector will largely be partnering with local producers in the value addition chain as well as identifying new markets for local products.
One of the noble intent of devolution as espoused in the CoK 2010 is to bring government services close to the people, two years down the line, a lot of milestones have been achieved in terms of service delivery.
I wish to re affirm our commitment as a county to strengthen the devolved governance and work together in realizing the objectives of devolution
