Transforming Nandi into the Netherlands of Africa
A key department in a county whose economy is reliant on Agriculture. That is why we are investing heavily in tackling maize and animal diseases, research on new agricultural frontiers, value addition and other
interventions of poverty reduction.
Being an experi-enced agricultural officer having scaled the ranks to be a district agricultural officer before her ap-pointment, the minister is passionate about her goals.
From disease surveil-lance, education on crop and animal husbandry and diversification of agricultural practices to spread risks, the de-partment has worked tirelessly to ensure the farmers are equipped with knowledge on latest farming practices for op-timum production.
High potential areas of milk production have been identified and the County will acquire milk coolers for them so as to reduce wastage of this important commod-ity. Renovation of cattle dips and procurement of accaracides at a cost of Kshs 42 million will be a game changer in this sector. This will be followed by a well-thought out Artificial Insemination service at a subsidized fee and will in the fullness of time make Nandi the ‘Neth-erlands of Africa’ known for high pedigree milk producing breeds. While at it, the County will be ripe to invest in a gran-deur milk processing plant. Ensuring steady supply of inputs is also core to the department and soil sampling will be rolled out soon across the County. Fingerlings will beacquired for farmers with fish ponds in a major hydroponics and aquaphonics strat-egy integrating fish and green farming which will turn-around the County’s agriculture significantly.
